FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Breakfast of Champions
Our latest reality show obsession, “Keeping up with the Olympians in Chez Paris''! With 32 categories of sports from Archery to Table Tennis to the newly anointed Skateboarding, Breakdancing, Sports Climbing and Surfboarding, there is much to absorb. While these remarkable athletes are judo chopping, pummeling, flipping and lunging at their opponents, we are surfing our phones, tablets, and tubes to scour the updates from the comfort of our asses. The Co-Rockers are in awe of each athlete’s journey, unparalleled commitment and deep-seated dedication to their sports and representation of their homelands. We have to ask, “What fuels these Olympians?” Literally. Aside from channeling Malcolm Gladwell’s “Outlier”, what is a breakfast of champions? In the city known for its love of food, home to “Le Cordon Bleu” and the most decorated Michelin star chefs, are Wheaties on the menu or is that “sacrilege”?! Chapeaus off to Sodexo Live Paris, the caterers behind the largest buffet in the world that aims to please on all levels: cultural tastes, food trends, and food sensitivities.
According to the Google abyss there are over 10,000 athletes competing for a medal with an estimated 60,000 meals per day, served at the Olympic Village. Katie Ledecky and Simone Biles, who have graced the cover of the Wheaties box and are destined for more adornments at the time of this writing, purportedly begin their day with oatmeal, peanut butter and bananas and guess what? If that’s the gold standard, then bring it on! Social media is having a love affair with the Norwegian swimmer, Henrik Christiansen who is obsessed with the chocolate muffins, alas he didn’t medal. Was it the muffin or the man? Either way he has captured the hearts of many food lovers and admirers. Dare we mention the French diver, Jules Bouyer? He’s likely eating bananas and sausages (and if you don’t know what we are talking about…we will just leave it at that).
So what’s the lesson here? You don’t have to be on the Wheaties box to be a champion, but you DO need to fuel your day and we say, make it Breakfast! Terri: Toast and peanut butter. Nanci: Scrambled eggs, hot sauce, cottage cheese and toast. Both down it with java-lin to keep them jousting throughout the day.
Brain Tweezer: The Co-Rockers finish their last dinner morsel at 8pm EST and agree to meet the following day for a meal at 12pm. One Co-Rocker sleeps, wakes and chugs coffee and a small meal at 7 am. The other Co-Rocker, sleeps, wakes and chooses to intermittent fast until their agreed upon meeting at noon. Are the Co-Rockers meeting for breakfast or lunch?
STEPPING OUT WITH THE CO-ROCKERS: Everyday Champions
Today we’d like to shine a light on something deeply personal. This past weekend heralded the 44th Annual Pan-Mass Challenge, a 2 day bike-a-thon dedicated to raising funds and awareness for cancer research and treatment for The Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The PMC has reached an unprecedented 1 billion dollars since its founding (read about Billy Starr and the genesis of this non-profit here). As alumni of the aptly named “Motley Crew” biking team and previous cookie donors, The Co-Rockers decided to forego the clips, the helmets and the pavement, and provide hands on support to over 3,000 riders at the waterstop in Lakeville, MA. Alongside an incredible group of volunteers, we offered nourishment and encouragement, we listened, we hugged and we shared. Today and every day we honor the everyday champions: the patients, the advocates, the family members, the friends, the colleagues, the doctors and the researchers, who ride for those we love and for those we lost and who dedicate their lives to making sure that when the rubber hits the road, there will always be wind at your back. To these everyday champions, we salute you, we honor you and we thank you!.
The Rockin’ Bandwagon: Breakfast in America
The Co-Rockers are shaking it up a bit with a focus on the iconic Hopper like diners. These are the joints that evoke memories that make us feel all mushy inside, whether it was the location, the vacation, the people we were with or just the spot itself. There’s always a diner at every neighborhood corner with a jar of sticky syrup, bottomless coffee, lip-stained cups, stacks of jelly packages, sassy servers, long lines, one bathroom with a toilet roll that’s just about to end, and the densest pancakes and runny eggs over easy with crispy bacon, hashbrowns and grits. Our personal lists are extensive and yup, even include IHOP, because how you choose to start your day, whether alone, with family or friends, leaves you fulfilled, energized and ready to get rockin’.

Something to Chew On:
Lyrics from “Give a little Bit” Supertramp, Album, Breakfast in America
This says it all
Give a little bit
Oh, give a little bit of your love to me
I'll give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my love to you
There's so much that we need to share
So send a smile and show you care
Enjoy every morsel XOXO The Co-Rockers
